In what will be her third and final collection with the Fair Trade fashion brand the collection takes on a more mature look.
The main collection will officially launch on 28 February 2011 to celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight and promoted through a special mail order catalogue with Emma Watson modeling throughout.
“I designed the collection last year after I’d started university in the US. Safia, People Tree’s founder, and Misato, People Tree’s designer, came out to work with me in Rhode Island. Together we decided on all the colours, fabrics, shapes and craft skills. Most of all, we took care to design a really wearable collection that truly celebrates the traditional skills of People Tree’s Fair Trade groups around the world.” said Emma Watson.
A preview collection of 9 styles goes on sale today featuring jersey harem pants, blazers and draped dresses as well as a striking silk gingham check dress and a polka dot tea dress.
Emma Watson speaks to Safia Minney, CEO and founder of People Tree as they travelled in Bangladesh. Check out Emma’s favourite items from People Tree’s autumn winter collection at www.peopletree.co.uk
The screencaptures are coming as soon as possible.
Emma Watson’s collection of 100% organic and Fairtrade-certified gingham cotton day dresses and hand-embroidered cute separates was shown for the first time during People Tree’s presentation at A Garden Party To Make A Difference and she sent Grazia this special message.
Brand new promotion outtakes for the new People Tree Autumn/Winter 2010 Campaign has been released. You can watch them in our gallery, Emma looks lovely. The full collection will be released at at The Prince of Wales’ eco festival, A Garden Party To Make A Difference it will take place on September 12 at 3.30pm and will be held in the historic Friary Court of St James’ Palace.
Emma visited with People Tree Bangladesh. You can watch the video of her visit below. We added some photos of her during her visit. The video also included behind the scenes footage of the Autumn/Winter campaign.
Following my summer collection for People Tree, I wanted to visit Bangladesh with Safia to see the difference Fair Trade makes.
The contrast between the slums in Dhaka (the capital of Bangladesh) where the people who work in the garment factories live and Swallows (the Fair Trade community supported by People Tree) was all too apparent.
You can read a short interview of my thoughts on the trip below, but I still find it hard to convey what Fair Trade means to those producing our fashion – it’s just so impressive to see how the women have used Fair Trade clothing to escape poverty and empower themselves and their children. I was very moved and inspired.
Although I wasn’t centrally involved in the design of this collection, I had great fun in helping Safia select some gorgeous Fair Trade textiles – a dogtooth hand woven check, cable knits, soft organic jerseys and the first Fair Trade hand woven brushed checked fabric which has been made into easy tulip skirts, dresses and shirts.
There are even a few party dresses, such as the little black satin tulip dress which can be dressed up or down to suit any occasion! I have picked out some of my favourite pieces which I have modelled for People Tree.
I want to congratulate People Tree on this new range and really hope people continue to buy these clothes and to support their great work in the promotion of Fair Trade.
Sorry for the lack of updates but there wasn’t much to update you on. Found out didn’t update you on the People Tree additions I made a few weeks ago, so here it is. Added all the scans of the People Tree catalogue & screencaptures of the Behind the scenes video.
