‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2′ to launch Oscar bid

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 will receive a strong push for a ‘Best Picture’ Academy Award nomination from Warner Bros.

JK Rowling’s fantasy franchise concluded last month, setting box office records and opening to overwhelmingly positive critical reviews.

Warner Bros is “absolutely, hands-down, across-the-board” planning to mount an Oscar campaign for Deathly Hallows: Part 2, reports Variety.

The Harry Potter series has been nominated for a total of nine Academy Awards but has walked away from each ceremony empty-handed.

Warner Bros is hoping to replicate the success of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, which had to wait until its final instalment Return of the King before collecting a ‘Best Picture’ Oscar and a further ten gongs.

Harry Potter director David Yates and star Emma Watson recently claimed that they had “made peace” with the series’ continued snubbing at major awards events, saying that satisfying the Potter fanbase was reward enough.

Harry Potter film shatters more box office records

LOS ANGELES — “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2,” broke single-day box office records with a whopping $92.1 million in opening day sales, according to industry tracker Exhibitor Relations.

The eighth film in the Harry Potter series eclipsed 2009′s “The Twilight Saga: New Moon,” which previously held the one-day ticket sales record at $72.7 million, added Exhibitor Relations.

“Deathly Hallows — Part 2,” the action-packed finale to one of the most successful movie franchises of all time, opened in North America cinemas Friday with a special midnight screening.

The film sees boy wizard Potter take on the evil Lord Voldemort in a climactic showdown, the second of two movies based on the final Potter book by British author J. K. Rowling.

Industry experts predict that Potter, and his wizarding friends, will set a new all-time opening weekend record, and beat current record holder superhero Batman into second place.

“The Dark Knight,” the last of Batman’s film adventures, hauled in $158 million on its opening weekend in 2008.

Harry Potter 7.2

Okay so last night I went to an early screening of the last of the Harry Potter films … first off I am not going to give anything away so do not worry about me sharing spoilers. I will just say that this movie was amazing and was a perfect ending to this wonderful series. Emma did an amazing job as always as did the rest of the cast. Was nice to see some of the other Hogwarts students that were mostly missing from the last film. The film had me on the edge of my seat the entire time and often found my arm pumping as I was thinking in my head “Yes!”

Would love to hear what the rest of you thought of the film …. leave your comments below … Did you enjoy the ending? Was there something you wish they had included? What scene was your favorite? Or anything else you want to share!
