The Weinsteins have thrown the Michelle Williams-starrer into the awards race, securing an Oct 9 centerpiece gala slot for the period drama. The 49th edition of the festival runs from Sept 30-Oct 16.

My Week With Marilyn also stars Dominic Cooper, drawing early awards heat for his dual portrayal of Uday Hussein and his body double in The Devil’s Double, as well as Judi Dench, Julia Ormond, Zoe Wanamaker, Emma Watson, Toby Jones, Philip Jackson, Geraldine Somerville, Derek Jacobi and Simon Russell Beale.

Simon Curtis directed the film based on a recently uncovered missing chapter in the diaries of Colin Clark, a young Oxford graduate who met Monroe on a film set and escorted the starlet for a week after her husband Arthur Miller leaves the country.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 will receive a strong push for a ‘Best Picture’ Academy Award nomination from Warner Bros.

JK Rowling’s fantasy franchise concluded last month, setting box office records and opening to overwhelmingly positive critical reviews.

Warner Bros is “absolutely, hands-down, across-the-board” planning to mount an Oscar campaign for Deathly Hallows: Part 2, reports Variety.

The Harry Potter series has been nominated for a total of nine Academy Awards but has walked away from each ceremony empty-handed.

Warner Bros is hoping to replicate the success of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, which had to wait until its final instalment Return of the King before collecting a ‘Best Picture’ Oscar and a further ten gongs.

Harry Potter director David Yates and star Emma Watson recently claimed that they had “made peace” with the series’ continued snubbing at major awards events, saying that satisfying the Potter fanbase was reward enough.

The star shocked many when she began modelling for Burberry, and created an ethical range of pieces with People Tree. Her fans were more used to seeing her as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter, so it took some getting used to.

Emma has explained working with People Tree seemed a natural progression for her as she’s been interested in the environment from a young age.

“I had a very inspiring teacher when I was at school. I did a lot of course work on the developing world, Fair Trade and natural disasters,” she explained. “It really developed my interest and then I met Safia Minney who’s the CEO of People Tree and we had really good chat. I want to make a difference. It’s really nice to contribute.”

Emma also surprised many when she cropped her signature long locks into a short pixie ‘do. It was something she’d wanted to do for a long time but couldn’t until Harry Potter filming had finished

“Oh my God it’s great! I just roll out of bed, it’s very low maintenance,” she told Shout magazine.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — “Harry Potter” star Emma Watson says she plans to return to Brown University to complete her degree.

The British actress who plays Hermione (hur-MY’-nee) Granger in the “Harry Potter” series tells The Virginian-Pilot that she remains enrolled at Brown even though she’ll study at England’s Oxford University in the fall.

She says intends to return to Providence in 2012 to complete her studies at the Ivy League school.

The 21-year-old Watson left Brown earlier this year, saying she wanted to devote her time to the final “Harry Potter” film and other acting opportunities.

The final chapter in the series premiered last week, setting box office records. It took in an estimated $168.6 million domestically from Friday to Sunday. That beats the previous best opening weekend of $158.4 million for 2008′s Batman blockbuster “The Dark Knight.”

Emma Watson to star in new ‘Beauty and the Beast’ adaptation

Harry Potter star, Emma Watson, is being lined up to star in a new version of the classic fairy tale, Beauty and the Beast. The next in a long line of adaptations of the classic story, in which a merchant’s daughter falls in love with a rich but hideous beast, is thought to already be in pre-production.

Denise Di Novi, the producer of Crazy, Stupid, Love told Comingsoon.net that she is developing the adaptation with Guillermo Del Toro.

Del Toro, director of Pan’s Labyrinth and Hellboy, is currently working on the monster movie, Pacific Rim, after passing The Hobbit back to the original Lord of the Rings director, Peter Jackson.

Little is known about the project thus far, but it is believed that the picture will retain the original setting and period rather than update the tale, like in Beastly, the re-imagining released earlier this year.

Emma Watson’s next film, and her first since the Potter franchise ends, will be the Marilyn Monroe biopic, My Week with Marilyn, which stars Michelle Williams as the iconic film star.

The final film in the Harry Potter saga, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part Two is in cinemas now.
